I haven’t talked much about automated bookmarking here at Niche Writer. Some people frown upon automation of any kind when it comes to building residual income online. I have been using Bookmarking Demon for about a year now, and am quite pleased with the product. I suppose if BMD is purchased by a spammer it could be used in ways it was not intended to be used. Although these links could be had for free through individual emails to like-minded individuals, I found I could not keep up with all the emails.  And many times people would email thinking they had a related niche and actuallly it was not.  Or they wanted a reciprocal link.  These free links are not free after all when you consider how much time I had to spend in emails for each link, a minimum of four emails per link exchange.

When I was investigating how to make money online through residual, recurring income, I ran across references to a company called Site Build It. I stumbled across Site Build It in 2008 when I was trying to figure out how to make money online. I think I happened upon Steve Pavlina’s site and read all his content about SBI there. But it bothered me that Steve’s own site was not created using SBI, so his testimonials actually influenced me to NOT try Site Build It. I even joined the SBI forum, called SBI to ask questions, became an affiliate to get access to more information, and then did a Google search for Site Build It Scam. Know what came up in the list? Site after site of affiliate reviews and not a negative word about Site Build It. That made me skeptical. The long and incessant sales pitches from Ken Evoy eventually helped me to decide to skip Site Build It and learn the skills I needed to become an independent internet marketer. It is a decision I have not regretted.

Fortunately since then I stumbled upon some honest Internet Marketing teachers and am learning the business of how to make money online. It is an interesting process. Now that I have some knowledge of how the search engines do their rankings, I can optimize my own sites internally and externally. I think SBI is a rather expensive choice when it comes to building one website.

My impression, and that of some of the above reviewers, is that Site Build It customers make more money through their affiliate income for SBI itself than through the websites they build WITH Site Build It. It is not something that I can prove or disprove, but I just thought I would mention that for my readers to consider.

If you are to be successful and build passive income online, you must learn the skill of choosing niches that are popular but do not have an unusually high number of websites built around them. I have not discovered a product that can predict popular niches with few websites.  If you know of one, please let me know so I can investigate and report to my readers.

It could be that there is no product that can accomplish this feat.  Some believe that you just have to teach yourself, keep your eyes and ears open, listen to what people around you are talking about and look at what people are buying.  There seems to be a bit of luck involved as well, but that is the case with anything in life, isn’t it?

One principal for niche selection to build passive income online is to choose specific niches instead of general niches.  You will have more success driving traffic to your website focused on pre-1990 World Series Baseball Cards than if it were focused on baseball cards, for example.

Another idea to use when you build passive income online is that most consumers are media-driven, and so people and events that are mentioned in magazines, on television, on radio, in newspapers are all going to be searched on the internet, and people may as well find your site, don’t you think?

So go through your daily life with your eyes wide open and start to notice the niches all around you.  Choose the ones you think will be most likely to succeed, and build the site.  Take action as soon as you think you have found a niche.  Don’t be afraid to try.  What is the worst that could happen?  You might be wrong and the site would not make money?  You can always do some research and later figure out how to make that site profitable.  But you will never know unless you start the process.
